What to do when you find a Beached Cetacean.

1. These animals always beach with a reason.
They are either sick, wounded or hurt in any other way.
Therefor NEVER push them back into the water!
They need help.

2. Do not try to move the animal, you could cause more
damage.

3. Do not allow more than a couple of people to care for
the animal. Also keep pets away.

4. Do NOT try to comfort the animal by touching it.
Remember, these are wild animals. Not used to human petting.

5. Call your local rescue center, the authorities, the local vet etc.

6. Use a wet towel, blanket or t-shirt to cover the animal to
keep it cool. NEVER cover the blowhole. Cetaceans can only
breathe through their blowhole, not through their mouths.
Also keep the dorsal, tailfluke and pectoral fins free.

7. Keep pouring water over the animal and flush the eyes
with water. Make sure no water or dirt gets in the blowhole.

8. Dig a hole under the pectoral fins.
a Cetaceans body is not used to be on land.
Laying on their belly too long can crush their internal organs.

9. If possible, make a sunscreen from a blanket or large towel.

10. Keep the animal cool and wet like that, and wait for the
professional help to arrive.
