Dolphin Flo passed away in Boudewijn Seapark

Brugge, Belgium 05/01/2012

Young female dolphin Flo passed away at the Boudewijn
Seapark in Bruges, after one week of intense treatment
for a tooth infection.

The vet suggested early December 2011 that Flo
was suffering of a severe tooth infection.
This was not the first time: Flo was born with
"bad" teeth. In the past they have often
successfully treated her for this.

On Dec. 18 two teeth were removed to stop the inflammation.
Since then Flo was on antibiotics but it has no effect.
Flo refused to eat because of the inflammation.
After x-rays and blood of Flo's jaw and teeth, the vet decided
in consultation with other specialists that heavy antibiotics
along vitamin supplements should be given to her.

The team of trainers treated Flo twice daily with medication,
fish and water. This intense treatment was done 2 times everyday,
even during the holidays.

The day before she died Flo's blood levels and temperature were normal.
There was no indication that Flo would not get through the night.
The sadness of the trainers was great when Flo was found dead this morning
in the tank.
